Time to acknowledge and say thanks

Dear Editor:At this year’s Aspen Fourth of July parade the valley community will again have an opportunity to acknowledge the sacrifice of all the men and women who, as Americans have done for 231 years, put their lives on hold to serve our country. Their efforts will be recognized in the parade entry, Tribute to Our Valley Veterans. We invite all U.S. military veterans and active duty personnel, locals and visitors, to walk in the Aspen parade with our entry. Participants should locate the group near Paepcke Park at the start of the parade route by 11:15 a.m. Veterans needing transportation or anyone else who can provide transportation should call Peter Hoffmann at 379-1371 ASAP. For more information, veterans can call Hugh Roberts at 927-4194 or Sally Glenn at 948-8278.As Americans celebrate the Fourth of July, we need to remember that the freedoms we enjoy were purchased with the service and sacrifice of our men and women in the military. We salute the more than two million men and women currently on active duty and in the reserves who are defending these freedoms. Please come join the other veterans walking to give the vest a big cheer of appreciation from the sidelines.Hugh RobertsViet Nam USAFSnowmass
