Time running out to redeem Basalt stimulus coupons
September 16, 2009
BASALT – The town of Basalt is reminding shoppers who earned $30 coupons in the homegrown stimulus program to spend them in participating stores and restaurants by Sept. 30.
The town government distributed $75,000 worth of coupons or gift certificates during the summer. Shoppers earned a $30 gift certificate for each collective $300 they spent at participating businesses. Shoppers responded by snatching up all available gift certificates well before the town government figured they would be gone.
The money for the gift certificates came from the town’s general fund. The program was designed to give business a boost this summer. Tax collections show sales were still down during the summer months compared to last year, although they likely would have been worse without the program.
An Aspen Times article on Sept. 10 provided the incorrect phone number for the Living Arts Foundation, regarding information for its Sept. 25-27 retreat at the Mountain Springs Ranch. The correct number is (970) 925-7018.
