Time for change

Dear Editor:

I am writing in support of Marilyn Marks for mayor. I am writing not to inform the electorate of her infinite qualifications for the post, but of her great personal qualities.

Anyone who has been to, or otherwise watched, any meeting at which Marilyn was present knows how respectful and calm an individual she is, even when confronted with the irate and red-faced barrages and insults leveled at her by the current mayor and council members.

Marilyn is truly a quality person of integrity and obviously takes her civic duties seriously. She is also a good friend and neighbor, and always listens to both sides of an issue. Marilyn is her own “woman,” and I respect the fact that she has pulled herself up by “her own bootstraps” during her life, and has become a success.

So, let’s not confuse Marilyn the person, with the edgy little “Red Ant,” a mere newsletter and blog. The Red Ant is obviously political satire, an ancient and time-honored way for the humble people to bring attention to the political process, its figures, and propositions. Satire is a form of entertainment, and is intended to bring attention to the issues at hand, and not to provide solutions ” although our “Red Ant” almost always suggests solutions.

The “Red Ant” wouldn’t get the attention or exposure it does if it were not a topical and quality site. In fact, it has more than 1,250 subscribers, and that speaks volumes in such a small community.

My only complaint, which I mentioned to Marilyn recently, is that she has not been writing as much lately, but then satire is only the beginning. Sooner or later, if you believe in your ideals, you need to stand up and be counted! Personally, I would much rather have Marilyn solving the problems from the inside than illuminating them from the outside.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I want to remind the constituents that you can make a difference.
