Staff report
The Aspen Times
Aspen, CO, Colorado

ASPEN – The Thrift Shop of Aspen will hold an open house for prospective volunteers from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at its store, located at 422 E. Hopkins Ave.

Thrift Shop volunteers work two days a month to resell and recycle used clothing, books, household goods and decorative items. Proceeds are returned to nonprofit organizations and schools from Aspen to Carbondale through monthly grants. More than 100 volunteers operate the store, which donated $440,000 to 200 community efforts last year as well as college scholarships for 10 seniors in high schools from Aspen to Carbondale.

The Thrift Shop of Aspen was founded in 1949. Its “Aspen Cooks” cookbook is the latest project designed to enhance revenue for the monthly grant program. It highlights a “taste of Aspen” from a local perspective. It is available for $24.95 at the Thrift Shops and other stores throughout the valley.

Operating hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. For more information, visit http://www.aspenthriftshop.org or call 970-925-3121.
