Three candidates so far for seats on Basalt board

Aspen Times Staff Report

Three potential candidates have emerged for Basalt’s April 2 election to fill three Town Council seats.

Incumbents Tracy Bennett and Anne Freedman have taken out petitions necessary to run again, said Town Clerk Pam Schilling. Bennett’s four-year term expires this April. Freedman is finishing a two-year term.

Current board member Dave Reed said he will not run for election. He was appointed to the seat 18 months ago when Councilman Chris Lane resigned to take a job in Denver.

Tiffany Gildred is the third potential candidate to show interest in the election. She narrowly missed election to the board two years ago. She has stayed active in town government since then by serving on the planning commission.

All three seats up for election will be for four-year terms.

Other people interested in running have until 5 p.m. on Friday, March 1, to submit a petition signed by a minimum of 10 registered Basalt voters. Petitions and packets of information are available from Schilling at Town Hall, 101 Midland Ave.
