Thoughtful experience for Aspen

Dear Editor:

I experienced the refreshing breeze of civil discourse last week. My husband and I sat around a table with a group of citizens, brought together to meet Michael Behrendt, who is running for Aspen City Council.

Michael asked us for our opinions on many issues, and he listened closely and attentively to our thoughts. When asked, he offered his views. It was a lively give and take. We didn’t always agree with each other, but everyone was respectful of each other’s opinions.

I learned a lot about Michael that evening: He has lived and worked in Aspen for 40 years; he served on City Council during the wild and woolly days of the late ’70s; he is a trusted friend and employer who brings humor, perspective and thoughtful experience to his interactions with others. And he listens ” a trait that many of us here seem to lack these days.

This election is critically important for ensuring that Aspen weathers the current storm and emerges stronger and more vital than ever. We don’t live cookie-cutter lifestyles here, and we need a diversity of voices on City Council to reflect that. We need experience and perspective. Our meeting with Michael convinced my husband and I that he has those qualities in abundance. Please vote for Michael Behrendt.
