This applicant is no puppet

Dear Editor:

Harvie Branscomb, in his Jan. 26 letter, charged that the new Aspen Election Commission will be a weak puppet commission. I am one of the applicants for the commission.

Ask anyone in town who knows me, and he or she will tell you that if I am selected for the commission I will be completely independent and never be unduly influenced by anyone, including the behind-the-scene Aspen city staff members.

I have always fought for the individual citizen and stood up to powerful groups that make it unfair for others, even though this has sometimes been at the expense of personal hardship for myself. I have been involved in community matters throughout my life, and I am not afraid to make tough decisions that may be unpopular with special interests.
