Thieves hit El Jebel-area construction site

Vail Daily Staff Report
Aspen, CO Colorado

EL JEBEL ” Contractors arrived at Missouri Heights construction site Thursday to find someone had cut the locks and pried open doors of their trailers, according to the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.

Between $8,000 and $10,000 worth of property was stolen or damaged at the site, authorities said. A laptop computer was among the missing property.

Following a construction-site theft in Missouri Heights last summer, crime dropped after several contractors in the area installed surveillance and alarm systems.

Thursday’s theft occurred at the only construction site in the area unequipped with such a system, the sheriff’s office said. Missouri Heights is located in the hills above El Jebel.

Deputies are seeking information from at least two “persons of interest.” Two suspicious Hispanic males visited the construction site Wednesday afternoon in a blue single-cab, four-wheel drive Toyota truck, according to the sheriff’s office.
