They should pay their share

Dear Editor:

Thirty years ago oil and gas companies needed, and deserved, help in extracting these resources in Colorado. Now these same companies are reporting consistent, massive, record profits. The people of Colorado have been, in effect, subsidizing these industries.

The resources will never be replaced, but the industries are now certainly able to pay their fair share. Other states have benefited significantly from fair severance payments by the companies. Wyoming, for example, offers free tuition for college students, and gifts of computers are made to students from the severance funds. Colorado deserves the same. It is wise and important to vote yes on Amendment 58.
