There is a remedy

Dear Editor:

Recent articles and letters concerning pedestrian crossings illustrate the need to improve pedestrian safety. One way to accomplish this is: improve pedestrian visibility while crossing Highway 82 at existing crosswalks.

This can best be accomplished by retrofitting existing street lights with ground-level directional lighting at crosswalks so as to illuminate the pedestrian’s lower appendages, thereby making them more visible to drivers whose vision is impaired by oncoming vehicle headlights and overhead street lighting. In simple terms: Illuminate the pedestrian in the crosswalk – not the driver’s face! This problem can be solved.
