Theatre Aspen announces 2011 summer season
Aspen CO Colorado
ASPEN – Theatre Aspen’s 2011 summer season will be highlighted by the appearance of Sandy Duncan in the comedy, “Becky’s New Car.” Also in the summer season are two musicals: the longstanding hit “Annie,” and “VICES: A Love Story,” by Michael Heitzman, Ilene Reid, Susan Draus and Everett Bradley, which premiered in 2009.
Theatre Aspen’s season opens June 24 with “Becky’s New Car,” written by Steven Dietz, and runs through Aug. 20. The season will inaugurate the organization’s new tent in Rio Grande Park.
A multiple Tony Award nominee, Duncan is best known for her portrayal of Peter in “Peter Pan,” on Broadway. She has also appeared as Roxie in “Chicago.” In “Becky’s New Car,” she will work alongside her son, Jeffrey Correia, who will essay the role of her son.
“I’ve hoped to get Sandy out here to do a play for awhile now,” Paige Price, Theatre Aspen’s artistic director, said. “That we also get Jeff is simply fantastic. We wanted to open our new theatre with a genuine event, and with Sandy and Jeff in this wildly funny play, we have it.”
Theatre Aspen was the recipient of the Henry Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre in Denver in 2009.
