The wrong person was fired

Dear Editor:

On Wednesday night the Roaring Fork School board fired Sonya Hemmen, incredible principal of Glenwood Springs Elementary School, and would not tell Ms. Hemmen or anyone else why.

This is part of a bigger issue. Sometimes people who are super competent are threatening to people who are incompetent. It’s the superintendent, Judy Haptonstall, that should have been and still needs to be fired and Hemmen needs to be reinstated. Haptonstall needs to learn how to support teachers and administrators who are creative and dynamic instead of trying to beat them down until they are mediocre like she is. And she needs to learn it somewhere else before she does more damage to a great school and a great school system.
