Jayne Gottlieb Productions, Inc., is putting on an all-kids production of “The Wizard of Oz” in Basalt’s Arbaney Park this weekend, featuring 45 local children.Although Gottlieb says she usually arranges to have the children’s’ community theater productions in the Basalt Middle School Theater, construction at the midvalley schools has prevented that this summer. So Gottlieb rented a “humongous” stage for some “hardcore theater in the park,” as she calls it.

The kids started rehearsing in July, and they put on the show on Thursday night for a crowd of 300.”I do three full-blown musicals a year – costumes, sets, the whole nine yards,” Gottlieb said. “The kids learn so much, and the older kids are amazing.”Every child gets a line in each production Gottlieb stages, which so far in this valley has included “42nd Street,” “Annie Get Your Gun” and “The Jungle Book.” This fall she’ll be putting on a production of “Grease.”The Wizard of Oz will be performed today at noon and 6 p.m. in Arbaney Park. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $6 for kids 10 and under. Bring blankets, picnic baskets and chairs.
