The true purpose of this page

Dear Editor:

The silent majority, or at least the section with a sense of humor, knows something about the letter page that us writers choose to ignore. Simply put, its true purpose is to allow people to have that extra cup o’ joe and vent to a defenseless and unsuspecting audience! Much better than taking it out on pets, kids, wives, neighbors and other drivers!

I have met some of the letter writers in real time, and they are surprisingly nice and interesting people! If you are really stugglin’ to cope with the excesses of the letter page either skip past it or at least separate it from reality! To my fellow writers, as Mary Hirch once said, “Humor is a rubber sword; it allows us to make a point without drawing blood and losing the audience.”
