The treasures of reading

Dear Editor:

We are currently teaching first grade at Aspen Elementary School. Teaching children to read is one of our primary goals. Because we know that children who read at home are much more likely to become skilled and enthusiastic readers, the first-grade teachers conduct an annual reading incentive for our children.

This year, we chose to go to Aspen’s Recreation Center to take our classes ice skating as part of their “100 Books in 100 Days Reading Challenge” reward. Dominic Lanese, the rink coordinator, graciously gave our two classes complimentary ice-skate rentals and ice time on Friday afternoon. The children had such fun! They were so proud of their accomplishments, and we were so impressed that the ARC would support our reading efforts.

We just feel so lucky to have such strong community support for our children! Thank you so very much!
