The Trapani Highway

Dear Editor:

Well, here we go again. Our City Council is being asked by Ralph Trapani of CDOT to sign over the right of way on the Marolt open space. I love his quote: “I can’t build this until I get the right of way.”

Is this a Trapani project or a CDOT project? Does he want to name it Trapani Highway? Of course Trapani wants us to support his request, he is a road builder. Funding means work.

He doesn’t care what we want for our town, he just wants to build more highway, but the voters have already decided this issue.

I am mostly concerned about our council members McCabe, Hershey and Semrau, who are blatantly disregarding the voters in Aspen that have said no to the proposed Entrance to Aspen.

Are they not listening? Valleywide rail is on hold for now. (Aspen Times, April 16). The original intent and interest in the Entrance to Aspen plan has changed.

Please let the councilmen know that you do not want them to sign away our open space until a transportation plan is put forth that the voters support.

This important decision may be made as soon as next Monday. Call them, e-mail them, stop them on the street, let them hear you again and again until they’ll listen.

They may not care about representing the voters, they may not care about future elections, but this is not the irreparable legacy they should leave.
