The terms of Aspen

Dear Editor:

Interpret Aspen Times e-spitballs (caustic anonymous comments) with this admittedly broken glossary:

Political – something unsavory but still necessary to support the vestigial democratic underpinnings of our republic

Politician – someone who engages in being political and therefore cannot thereafter be trusted

Sore loser – a citizen who sacrificed quality of life and livelihood to run for office and because of failing to win is never again permitted to have a constructive effect on government – that is, unless and until they somehow some day win – preferably never.

Perpetual campaign – any civic action taken or statement made by a “sore loser” no matter how constructive – on the other hand, whatever winners do in office in the way of promotion is not labeled a campaign, by definition. Instead it is simply good public policy

Local – anyone who thinks like “we” do (whatever that means)
