The stories they tell

Dear Editor:

I have recently attended the Aspen Historical Society’s “Time Travel Tuesday” programs at the Limelight, and they are a delight. First I heard four people from our community talk about their love of nordic skiing. Following Mike Monroney’s capsule history of the sport, Tom Moore, Ruthie Brown, Tom Ward and Craig Ward gave their unique perspectives and contributions to the sport. I learned so much and especially enjoyed the fact that these pioneers could share their stories with one another and with us. It was fun for all.

Then last week, the backcountry athletes enthralled us with their experiences of going where few of us do and the spirituality of their endeavors. Neil Beidleman, Christie Mahon, Nickie deVore and Michael Kennedy were amazing.

What a great thing the Aspen Historical Society is doing to keep our unique history pertinent and alive with our own best storytellers! I highly encourage your attendance at these events. These stories are being recorded for the archives and will be available to all.
