The Silver Pen Award goes to…

Congratulations to Aspen resident Don Dixon for writing the best letter to the editor in November, which ran on Nov. 1. Editorial board members made these comments: “I like the ‘gotcha’ tone of the letter ” callĀing someone on dodging responsibility and accountability for his actions,” and also ” This letter is short and makes a point by using the subject’s own statement against him, plus a little bit of humor.”

Here is a re-printing of Dixon’s letter. If you’d like to be considered for a Silver Pen Award (and receive an Aspen Times silver pen if you win,) simply write us a letter to the editor. Keep it under 500 words and e-mail it to mail@aspenĀtimes.com, mail it to 310 E. Main St., Aspen, CO, 81611, or bring it by our office ” the purple building on Main Street next to the Hotel Jerome.

In the ongoing “self-defense” plea of the Lazy Glen bear killer, The Aspen Times, Oct. 31 (“Bear shooter claims bruin wandered into bullet’s path”), I see the big brave shooter now claims the 40-pound black bear cub “accidentally moved into the path of his bullet.” This must have been one swift baby bear.

As I recall the helpless little bruin was then skinned and dressed out like a rainbow trout. I wonder, did the little bear’s corpse “accidentally” jump into the path of the shooter’s knife as well?
