Dear Editor:

A “Dripping with sarcasm” letter appeared in your paper on Sept. 9, 2009. While its writer, Eric Simon, and I don’t agree on one the major causes of the economic meltdown (I say high interest rates – raised 525 percent from 2001-2005, he says low interest rates were the culprit) his “sarcasm” nailed the issue.

If I were a kid not allowed to hear President Obama’s speech about doing well in school, I would probably conclude my parents and educators, who Eric thinks are right-wing conservatives, don’t give a rats’ ass if I pass or fail.

Our fallen President JFK said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” President Obama is saying to the youth of America, you are helping your country by doing well in school. How refreshing!
