The ReMemberers bring ancient story to Carbondale: The Lindworm

Folktales passed down through generations are getting a fresh take in Carbondale during a one-night-only performance.
“The ReMemberers: The Lindworm featuring John DeKadt” will be on stage at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at True Nature Healing Arts in Carbondale.
The Scandinavian folktale is about “a serpent-born prince, a brave shepherdess, and a kingdom filled with secrets.” The ReMemberers perform the folktale by blending global music with myth to create a concert-storytelling hybrid.
“It’s not quite a theatre piece, and it’s not quite a normal concert,” said Alex Harvey, who will perform global instruments during the show including the saz, shakuhachi, and kalyuka. “These are folktales, very old myths that we tell, and we interweave them with live music from all over the world.”
The trio formed in 2022 in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, bringing together storyteller and percussionist John de Kadt, vocalist and guitarist Violet Southard, and instrumentalist Harvey.
de Kadt studied storytelling under renowned Minnesota poet Robert Bly, who lived from 1921 to 2021. Bly was internationally known for bringing mythology into therapy and healing, and de Kadt had the opportunity to drum for Bly during some of his presentations.
“John tells these myths with gravity and levity,” Harvey said, adding that “you’re really drawn into the experience.”
A Denver native, Harvey has a background in film and directing. He taught graduate acting at New York University for 10 years, and he performed about 30 Shakespeare plays across Colorado between ages 7 and 17. He also directed the 2017 film, “Walden: Life in the Woods.”

The 90-minute performance “creates an almost cinematic experience in your mind without having to see a screen,” Harvey said. “These are old myths that address what happens when big elements of our world fall apart. It’s an amazingly potent moment to turn to myth, where there’s this fertile imagination and the dreaming of a different type of world.”
So far, their Colorado tour is going well, having recently sold out at Swallow Hill in Denver. After Carbondale, the trio will head to Colorado Springs.
True Nature Healing Arts is located at 100 N. 3rd St., Carbondale. Tickets are available in advance for $30 and $45 on the day of the show. To register, visit truenaturehealingarts.com/events-workshops/2025/10/9/the-rememberers-the-lindworm-featuring-john-dekadt.
