The off-season means changes to bus schedule

Aspen Times Staff Report

The fall off-season will bring a reduced level of bus service in Aspen and the expansion of free parking to Saturdays in the downtown core.

Free parking on Saturdays will begin Sept. 6; paid parking will remain in effect Monday through Friday. Parking is always free on Sundays.

Starting Sept. 2, carpools of two or more people may park free in designated spaces around town; pick up a carpool permit at the airport parking kiosk or the Rio Grande parking garage.

Aspen’s Cross Town Shuttle ended service for the summer season on Aug. 23; Sept. 1 is the last day of service for the Galena Street Shuttle and Maroon Creek direct bus.

From Sept. 2 to Nov. 26, all other city bus routes will operate on a reduced schedule. The Castle-Maroon, Cemetery Lane and Hunter Creek routes will run from 7 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays. The Mountain Valley bus will operate from 7 a.m. to 7:45 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. on Sundays.

On Friday and Saturday nights, High Mountain Taxi will provide service from Rubey Park at 1 a.m., delivering passengers to bus stops on any city route, free of charge.

The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority’s Woody Creek bus will run through Sept. 1 and then cease operation until Nov. 27.

From Sept. 2 to Nov. 26, RFTA valley service will run hourly instead of every 30 minutes after 8:15 p.m. Downvalley buses will depart Rubey Park at 15 minutes after the hour, starting at 8:15 p.m.
