The good doctor

This letter is a big thank you to Dr. Thomas Moore and his staff at the Rocky Mountain Sports Medicine orthopedic clinic in Basalt.

This past week, Dr. Moore and his staff – Gail Moore and Holly Benson – came out to Basalt Middle School and provided free physical screenings for all of the incoming eighth-graders for next year’s athletic program.

Tom has always done this for the middle school at the same time as he has done the high schools. However, this year he came to the middle school two extra times in order to complete more and to make it easier for our kids to get this done.

Dr. Moore is also offering to do the comprehensive physical exams that incoming seventh- and ninth-graders need to compete on any athletic team next year for a tax-deductible donation of $50. The donation is for The Thomas Moore Sports Medicine Foundation.

The mission of the foundation is to provide safety in sports and exercise through education. The foundation also sponsors the Safety First Ski/Snowboard Helmet Program benefiting the children of the Roaring Fork Valley,

To make an appointment for a physical, call Dr. Moore’s office at 927-3344. If you do this over the summer, you will be ready to start practice on Aug. 25 for fall sports and you will benefit a very worthy cause.

Thanks again, Dr. Moore, for all that you do for the kids of the Roaring Fork Valley, but especially for the student athletes at Basalt Middle School.
