The first forum is set

Dear Editor:

The Pitkin County Democratic Party and the Pitkin County Republicans are jointly sponsoring the opening candidate forum for all candidates in the upcoming May election for Aspen mayor and City Council. The forum will be on Thursday, April 9, in the Lauder Room in the Koch Building at the Aspen Institute, with the forum for the mayoral candidates from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and the forum for the council candidates from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The final day to register as a candidate is April 3. Since April 9 is the day that candidates will be briefed by the Aspen city department heads, candidates are anticipated to arrive at the forum particularly well informed and ready to answer questions. Christopher Bryan and Paul Menter will be the moderators for the evening. Questions will be taken from the floor, but written questions are invited in advance.

Please submit your questions to Christopher Bryan at and/or Paul Menter at

If your question is for a particular candidate, please so indicate.

We look forward to seeing you at the forum.

Camilla Auger, chair, Pitkin County Democratic Party

Frieda Wallison, chair, Pitkin County Republicans
