The dump truck goes ‘ka-ching!’

Dear Editor:

Yesterday, one of my children was home sick from school. As he lay in bed, he asked me if I could go next door and ask the construction workers not to make so much noise. I said, “Come on, Tommy. That’s good noise. That’s the sound of somebody getting rich.”

I would’ve thought any 5-year-old would understand that, much less a middle schooler. But he stubbornly kept insisting on “peace and quiet.” How selfish! I couldn’t help wondering, “What kind of values are we teaching our kids, anyway?”
