Aspen Celebrity Downhill co-chairs Nancy Paley, Laura Welch and Karen Lord are the driving force behind the benefit each year.

Aspen Youth Experience’s signature fundraiser, the Aspen Celebrity Downhill, was last weekend. Presented by John and Selene Devaney and United Capital Asset Management, events included a kickoff party at a private residence, casino night at the Caribou Club, the namesake race on The Little Nell, and the grand finale gala at the St. Regis.

AYE alumnus Xavier Reyes was honored at the gala dinner for his success as a participant, peer counselor and group leader, followed by his role as a board member and his continued commitment to the program for at-risk youth. Actor/comedian David Alan Grier was presented with the Celebrity Philanthropist award, having attended the benefit weekend for the fourth year in a row. In accepting his award, Grier described his devotion to the organization and the importance of AYE for the youth in its programs.Drawing celebrities for the event is never an easy task given their erratic production schedules, often times in far-off locations. It is evident, however, that those who are able to attend not only have a great time skiing and participating in the weekend events, but are very much affected by the impact the programs have on the participants.

“It has been so great to see the commitment of the celebrities who often don’t know until the last minute if their schedules will allow for them to attend,” said Lori Burnstine, who has served on the celebrity committee for several years.”Once they’ve participated in the Downhill they are always trying to make it back,” Burnstine added. “It’s clear that these celebrities really see the value of what AYE

is doing for the youth participants and want to remain a part of it.”For more information on the organization, visit or call 925.6671.
