Dear Editor:

Students from Basalt High School participated in the inauguration of our 44th president, Barack Obama. As this was a trip of historic proportions and a moment for Americans to be proud of our accomplishments, it is a reminder of how far we have come as a great nation.

As Mr. Obama stated in his Democratic nomination acceptance speech, “this historic journey has been all about YOU!” It was through the efforts of millions of citizens across this nation who spent amazing amounts of energy to make our efforts of getting our first black president elected to the White House. As this journey reflected the efforts of millions around the nation and in the collective conscious of people world wide Basalt High School would like to thank the following sponsors for helping our group of 12 students witness this event first-hand.

We would first like to thank Chuck Murphy at Gray Line Bus for their efforts in getting us to the airport. They took the time and patience to work with us to donate transportation to get us from Basalt to our flights in Denver. Thank you!

We’d also like to thank the following sponsors for their contributions to helping our students with their travel costs: Pitkin Board of County Commissioners, Aspen Elks Lodge No. 224, Dominos Pizza, D. Shakleford Shipp, JD Attorney at Law, and Robert Ruglle.

To all of these great sponsors we say thank you.

Seann Goodman
