Thanks for supporting a great cause

Dear Editor:

The planning committee for the local charity – Shining Stars Kid’s Foundation – would like to thank the Aspen community for its generosity and support of the recent third annual Charity Soccer fundraiser.

More than 100 companies valleywide kindly contributed in raising more than $15,000, three times what we’ve raised in previous years. The committee would especially like to thank the businesses who stepped up to sponsor this event, including our title sponsor, Instant Software, and our supporting sponsors, Artisan Fine Finishing, Aspen Square Condominiums, Bad Billy’s, Clark’s Market, Coors, Fine Trim Interiors, Fitzgerald Landscaping, Gentlemen of Aspen, Iceni Construction, Pearl Vodka, Reclaim!, Sugar, Tidbits and Twisted Tree Landscape Architecture.

We all had the privilege of meeting a real Shining Star, Evan White from Denver, whose moving speech and “head shaving” touched many. His parents were so pleased that Evan was so well-received and respected by the Aspen community. It meant the world for them to see their son who is challenged by four life-threatening illnesses himself, be so happy and so full of life because he could help play a part in making the tournament weekend a fabulous success.

The Shining Stars provides hope for children with cancer and life-threatening diseases by providing year-round recreational and outreach programs at no cost to the child or their family.

Blessed by Tibetan Monks at the start of the game, the World’s Team, represented by 14 countries from around the globe, went on to defeat a highly spirited England, to lead the series two to one.

Thank you again to the City and Parks Department for helping stage such a rewarding event and to all those supporters who gave so much time and effort for such a wonderful cause. We look forward to seeing Shining Star Evan, a rejuvenated England and the World’s squad next year!

Thank you, Roaring Fork Valley!
