Thanks, Dave Hjerleid

Dear Editor:As a representative of the staff at Aspen Valley Ski/Snowboard Club, I am writing to express appreciation to Dave Hjerleid, the alpine director, who has recently stepped down to pursue other avenues in life. Now comes a time of transition in a stalwart Aspen institution on the eve of its 70th birthday. AVSC has been a dynamic, ever-evolving ski club with historic figures once at the helm, including Gale Spence, Ted Armstrong and Sim Thomas, who led the Aspen Ski Club to the highest standards and values. Many have been in command of guiding this vessel, but few have held the passion and commitment, with all its attributes (many of which proved ever so challenging) for more than half a decade. The honor, respect, and dedication Dave Hjerleid gave to the ski club for six years will be forever etched into its history and soul. Countless individuals – athletes, parents and staff – have been fortunate to have benefited from his work.Thank you Dave Hjerleid. We wish you and your family the best of luck. However, this is not goodbye, for we all know how to find you. Casey Puckett and the AVSC alpine staffAspen
