Thanks, Buddy

Dear Editor:

The Buddy Program would like to extend a warm and heartfelt THANK YOU to all those who contributed to the success of our two major fundraising events last weekend – the 11th anniversary of Boogie’s Bash for the Buddies (more than 500 attendees!) and the 29th year of Boogie’s Diner Buddy 5-Mile Race (more than 1,000 participants!).

Through the generosity of Bash patrons, Race participants, event coordinators and volunteers, restaurant contributors, corporate and in-kind sponsors – led by FENDI as our Exclusive Fashion Partner, our event producer – Peter Helburn of Just Ask Peter, and Big Buddies, these events surpassed our expectations. THANK YOU!!

Every year these events are a great reminder that our community strongly believes that each one of us has a hand in keeping youth in our community healthy, safe and self-confident. Without each person in our community who plays a role, the Buddy Program could not continue to be successful.

This letter would not be complete without thanking our board members – led by Diane Anderson, Leadership Development board members – led by Jimmy Marcus and David Cook, and very generous National Council donors – led by Mona Look-Mazza and Tony Mazza and Susan and Bill Plummer – for their dedication and efforts throughout the year that ensures the Buddy Program can offer proven and meaningful programs to more than 450 youths in our community.

The Buddy Program grew its programs and reach by 30 percent in 2010 by taking on the Experiential Group Mentoring Programs formerly run by Aspen Youth Experience. These programs combine seamlessly with our mentoring programs as they focus on meeting the increasingly complex social and cultural needs of youth in our community.

Recommended Stories For You

Children who participate in the Buddy Program consistently report improved self-esteem, improved involvement and interest in school, having more positive relationships with peers and family, and growing up more involved in their communities. Great things can happen when the children in our community feel supported and encouraged.

And finally we would like to say a very warm thank you to Lenny “Boogie” Weinglass, who has been supporting the Buddy Program for so many years we have lost count. He is an angel to work with, and our community’s children are better because of his generosity – thank you, Boogie!

Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. Your support ensures that the Buddy Program can continue to strengthen our community by guiding and inspiring youth through mentoring.
