Thank you, ride supporters

Dear Editor:A huge thanks to all!The first Aspen/Snowmass Ride for the Cure, held on Sept. 11, was an unbelievable success! I would like to thank Elaine Grossman and Lisa Consiglio, co-chairs of this first-time event, for their endless hours of hard work and dedication to the fight against breast cancer. They made their dream of an exciting new event in Aspen a reality, and now the Komen Aspen Affiliate can turn that reality into research, education, screening and treatment for hundreds of underserved women in the Roaring Fork Valley and beyond. We also owe the riders a tremendous amount of gratitude for their fund-raising efforts. Over $405,000 has been raised to date by these 240 individuals, with more coming in daily! Thanks to all of you and to all those family and friends who have supported you. Aspen Valley Hospital and Valley View Hospital were presenting sponsors, and there were over 30 founding sponsors. I cannot thank you all enough for your generosity. Numerous businesses and individuals also made in-kind donations of everything from food and beverages to items for a live auction held at the Hotel Jerome the night before the Ride. I would like to thank all of them. Thank you, too, to the City of Aspen, Town of Snowmass Village and Pitkin County for your invaluable assistance.I would also like to thank the steering committee, Bill Fabrocini, Katie Grange, Cindy Houben, Charlie Tarver, Linda Schmehl, Maura Masters, Judy Brenner and Cathleen Treacy, and all our crew chiefs. The steering committee and crew chiefs were instrumental in putting together a terrific team of 240 volunteers, one for every rider! It is a great honor to be associated with the wonderful group of women and men who make up the Aspen Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. I appreciate all your volunteer efforts more than I can say. We’re making a difference!Leslie WatersPresident, Komen Aspen affiliate
