Thank you, Aspen
October 9, 2009
This past weekend the Aspen community came together to sponsor and support the Western Slope College Fair. Hosting well over 1,000 high school students and family members, the event took over Aspen High School on Sunday for an opportunity for college-bound students and their parents to meet with 180 college and university admissions representatives, and to attend seminars on the college process.
There is nothing like this event anywhere in Colorado, and we open our event to high school students from 60 Western Slope schools in addition to our own Aspen and Roaring Fork Valley students.
The event was another grand success. Special thanks go out to the fair committee, student volunteers and Aspen High School staff for all their hard work planning, setting up, logistics and hospitality events. We appreciate the cooperation of Superintendent Dr. Diana Sirko in making facilities available, and looking their best. We appreciated the assistance of Principal Charlie Anastas in getting it all ready for Sunday’s event.
Dave LaGrua’s leadership and willingness to help were a testimony to his devotion to our district and our great kids. His tireless efforts made our college fair a huge visual and logistical success. Bob and Jose and the entire maintenance and custodial staff had such a great attitude that they made the team an effective unit and a pleasure to work with.
Thank you to the 100 volunteers on Sunday: Car parking attendants, servers, registrars, hosts, and ambassadors. It is a great pleasure to be part of this community where education is clearly valued. Thanks to our funding and support sponsors too: Alpine Banks, Aspen Skiing Co., ENCANA and Aspen Education Foundation. Thank you all for giving the students this opportunity.
