VAIL, Colo. ” Next month’s Teva Mountain Games in Vail is expanding the competition ” for dogs.

The annual outdoor adventure sports festival, devoted to human pursuits like kayaking and climbing, will bump up the number of events for canine competitors from one to three and open the contests to all dogs. The competitions are scheduled June 5-8.

From the most experienced competitors to the greenest first-timers, all dogs are invited to take part in a head-to-head challenge in any or all of the three events: Big Air Wave, Extreme Vertical and Speed Retrieve.

“Dogs are so important to mountain culture. I think the mountain-town dogs will give the professional circuit dogs a run for their money,” said Joel Heath of Untraditional Marketing, the owner and operator of the Teva Mountain Games.

Coordinating the dog events will be DockDogs, the independent governing and sanctioning body for the regional, national and international dock-jumping performance sport for dogs. DockDogs establishes the rules and standards of the sport, tracks and records results, and promotes the growth of its athletes, teams events, spectators and sponsors. Visit for more information.

Online pre-registration for the canine events closes on June 2 at noon. Pre-registration for the Big Air Wave and Speed Retrieve will close at 30 participants, while the Extreme Vertical challenge will close at 12. Onsite registration will occur each day before the event begins.

The entry fee is $20 per dog for the Big Air Open Wave, $25 per dog for Speed Retrieve Wave and $30 per dog for Extreme Vertical. To register, visit
