GLENWOOD SPRINGS ” Authorities recovered the body of a man who died behind the Roaring Fork Marketplace south of Wal-Mart Sunday afternoon.
The Garfield County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Paul Friel, 47, of Carbondale.
Deputy coroner Kristin Clifford said Monday that Friel appears to have died of a heart attack. He was pronounced dead at about 3:45 p.m. after police, the fire department and emergency medical technicians responded to the scene.
Police Chief Terry Wilson said some teenagers called authorities after spotting the body lying about 350 feet up a dirt trail leading up the hill behind the stores.
“I think the kids were pretty shook up,” he said.
