Teens arrested after standoff in Junction

The Associated Press
Aspen, CO Colorado

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. ” Two teenagers are in custody after an early-morning standoff at a sporting goods store in Grand Junction.

Authorities say the 16-year-olds were trying to steal at least 10 handguns from the Gene Taylor’s store on West Gunnison Avenue.

Officers responded to the scene around 1:30 a.m. Monday on a report of a burglar alarm going off.

A SWAT team surrounded the store after officers found a broken door and saw someone inside the building.

The teens, whose names were not released, were taken into custody about 6 a.m., and there was no information as to whether any shots were fired during the incident.

Investigators say the teens’ getaway vehicle was parked outside the store.
