ASPEN – A 16-year-old boy attending a basketball camp in Aspen collapsed and died Monday, officials said.

Quinn Issiah Everring, of Toronto, was pronounced dead at 4:12 p.m., according to a press release from the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office.

Everring was found “semiconscious” in the upstairs gym at Aspen High School, the host venue for the Aspen Basketball Academy’s senior camp, taking place this week. Officials received a 911 call around 2:55 p.m. As rescue personnel were en route to the gymnasium, a bystander on the scene performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Everring, officials said.

When paramedics arrived, they performed CPR as well, “doing everything they could,” said Deputy Alex Burchetta, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Everring had arrived in Aspen on Monday morning to participate in the camp, according to officials.

The Pitkin County Coroner’s Office is investigating the cause of the death.
