Tear down this fence
July 7, 2009
As my mother used to say, “I’m so mad I could spit.” Today, the Fourth of July, the celebration of our freedom, I was driving down Lower River Road on my way to Basalt and I noticed a new addition to our road.
Someone has put up a barb-wire fence with ugly green poles on the only section of the road that was left for parking. I have lived on Lower River Road for the last 10 years and have witnessed many changes. Over the last four years I have seen split rail fences going up anywhere there was a place to pull over and park. They say they are trying to bring it back to the way nature intended. Today was the last straw. We only had one place left to pull over, say our car broke down, which mine has done from time to time; there was only one place left to pull over, now it is gone. I am not impressed. Who put this up? Was it the county? Was it a private individual? Who gives you the right to put up a fence just to keep mother nature in?
If God were here, he’d tell you to your face, man, you’re some kind of sinner! I am making this my project; that fence is not staying there and not only is it an eyesore because it is so ugly, it takes away the only spot left to pull over. Whoever put this up – you are not keeping it up, it is coming down, I will do whatever it takes to get this removed, legally. It is an insult to all of us who live and drive on this road every day. I would say that this is f—ing B.S. I am a taxpayer who is not going to stand by while whoever it is, slowly takes over. This is our road, the taxpayers of Pitkin County, and I did not approve this! Anybody else out there who agrees, you can get a hold of me, we’ll fight this together. Have a good day and savor your freedom as those around us slowly take it away a little bit at a time.
