Summer is almost here and with it will come the fabulous parties and evening soirees.One of the prettiest and most fun events last summer was the Sizzling Latin Night given by Yoly and Mark Davis at their Ridge Road home on Red Mountain. The Davises spend the winters in their home in San Juan, Puerto Rico (where they often see former Aspenites Maria and Fernando Allende). The evening featured a cocktail party on the patio, dinner around the pool, and then the highlight of the evening dancing with Jimmy Yeager, who teaches Latin dance.Commencement exercises for the senior class of Aspen High School will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, in the Benedict Music Tent.Kelly Kate Waldron, daughter of Brent and Connie Waldron, has been named to the honor roll for academic excellence at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan. Kelly Kate is pursuing a degree in pre-education secondary and she is a sophomore.The $99 Early Bird Locals Pass is now on sale for the Aspen Summer Words Literary Festival and can be purchased through the foundation offices in the Red Brick Center for the Arts and after June 1 at the Wheeler Opera House box office. The pass guarantees seating at all the Summer Words public events, plus exclusive admission to private VIP receptions. The pass is available to Roaring Fork Valley residents with valid ID and advance purchase by June 18. Featured speakers during the festival include Erica Jong, author of Fear of Flying and seven other novels; Anita Shreve, author of The Pilots Wife; Madeleine Blais, author of Uphill Walkers; Ron Carlson, author of At the Jim Bridger; Jane Hirshfield, author of Given Sugar, Given Salt; Elinor Lipman, author of The Pursuit of Alice Thrift; Fenton Johnson, author of Rock, Paper, Scissors; Jan Greenberg, the childrens author who wrote Heart to Heart; Daniel Glick, journalist and author of Monkey Dancing; and Jay Mandel, literary agent from the William Morris Agency.The June 2004 issue of Architectural Digest magazine has many mentions of Aspen. There is an article and photos about the Rocky Mountain Institute and how it devotes itself to all things green. Aspen photographer David O. Marlow is pictured in the contributor section, as he was the photographer for two feature stories, one about the home of Camille and Kelsey Grammer in Beaver Creek and the other about a California home whose interior designer was Craig Wright.Gregg and Catherine Adams of El Jebel announce the birth of a daughter, Ashley Anne Adams, on April 28 in Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs. Grandparents are Dr. and Mrs. William Doran of Conneaut, Ohio, Dr. and Mrs. Charles Adams of Grant, Mich., and Mr. and Mrs. George Ledden of E. Lansing, Mich.Undercurrent … It is no longer the spring offseason … it is the spring construction season.
