Take it from the teens

Dear Editor:YouthZone is one of the 42 nonprofits that receive vital support from the Healthy Community Fund.Let a couple teens tell you what this has meant to them:”Working with YouthZone, I learned that when I get upset or depressed, drinking does not solve the problem. I learned there are other ways to solve problems.””I’ve learned how to control my anger. I have learned the ‘tools’ I need to not flare up and get into problems involving anger.””My personal goals have been achieved, and YouthZone has taught me how to achieve them. This experience also showed me that life is what you make it.”YouthZone works with youth who want tools to succeed and parents who want to raise responsible kids. From our full-time office in Pitkin County, we provide a variety of services including individual and family counseling, drug and alcohol intervention groups, anger management counseling and alternative sentencing options (diversion) for youth involved in the juvenile justice system.Although we are very active in grant writing and fundraising and charge some fees for services, it is not possible for us to bring these services to the community without the help of the Healthy Community Fund. Please vote Yes on 1A. It is the way for you to support young people and so many others in your community.Debbie WildeExecutive DirectorYouthZone
