Take a page from the last frontier

Dear Editor:

For those of your readers who suffer never ending bridge and/or road construction delays in and around Aspen, I would like to offer totally unrelated trivia:

– The construction of the Alaska Highway (1,523 miles) was concluded in less than eight months (March 8, 1942 to Oct. 28, 1942).

– There are 133 bridges along the Alaska Highway.

– No employee of Pitkin County, the city of Aspen, or the Colorado Department of Transportation was involved in the construction of the Alaska Highway.

– Ralph Trapani (formerly of CDOT) was never asked his opinion.
