Susi French

Susi French, a longtime summer resident of Aspen who built a house and lived on Red Mountain for more than 40 years, died at home in Chicago on June 22. She was 91 years old.

French had lived in the Hyde Park/University of Chicago area since 1931. She left her native Germany to marry an American psychoanalyst Thomas M. French, who preceded her in death in 1976. They were both active in Aspen’s culture, Susi particularly in the annual International Design Conference.

She is survived by her son, Hans French of Mt. Adams, Ohio, and Sanibel, Fla.; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A private gathering of her family to celebrate her life was held in Chicago on June 26.
