Support Sutey exchange

Dear Editor:

I notice from a recent news article that Pitkin County is once again expressing interest in purchasing all or part of the Droste properties near Snowmass Village, which encompass nine development lots, with a collective price tag of $25 million.

My point is a simple one. In the Sutey-Wexner land exchange, the Wexners are proposing to voluntarily give up 10 development lots on their ranch, seven of which are just east of the Crystal River near Thomas Creek. This “give-back” to the county won’t cost Pitkin County, or anyone else, a dime, except for the Wexners. And, if the Droste land is any barometer, what the Wexners are proposing to give back are quite valuable rights indeed!

In March, our Crystal River Caucus voted 36-6 to support the Sutey-Wexner exchange because we realized what a good deal our valley would be getting in the exchange. We are all Pitkin County residents, and once again, ask our commissioners to join us in supporting the land exchange.
