Sunday liquor sales win initial OK

DENVER ” A proposal to allow liquor stores to open on Sundays in Colorado is moving ahead at the state Capitol.

The Senate gave initial approval to the bill Friday with no debate.

That’s a big change from previous attempts to change the state’s blue laws, when debates were often long.

More liquor store owners support Sunday sales this time. They see it as an alternative to a bill allowing supermarkets to sell full-strength beer and wine.

The supermarket bill was killed last week after liquor store owners packed the hearing room in opposition.

The Sunday-sales bill must still pass another vote in the Senate before moving to the House.
