Summer days

Summertime is the season of long days and action-packed nights. Each day of the week offers various options for athletics and entertainment.

Monday night recreation league softball has been a summer staple for years. Stop by Moore Field or the Aspen Rec Center to catch fly balls and support your favorite teams. Another alternative on the opposite end of the spectrum would be the chamber music performances at Harris Hall at 6 p.m.

Proceeds benefit a different nonprofit each week of the summer. On Wednesday nights, the Aspen Cycling Club’s races take place, alternating between road and mountain biking. Volunteer, watch or participate in the competition that’s staged through September 12.

Thursday nights are best spent in Snowmass at the free concerts on the hill starting at 6 p.m. The Summer of Free Music Series lasts through August 23.

Friday afternoon club at The Sky is always a sure bet for socializing as is the dance party at Dish Aspen each week.

Smoke Modern Barbecue in the Willits Town Center offers free music every Saturday night starting at 9 p.m. Enjoy pulled pork and acoustic tunes mid-valley.Bluegrass Sundays atop Aspen Mountain are a favorite free activity among locals. The open-air concerts are from noon to 3 p.m. outside the Sundeck.
