Strive for balance

Dear Editor:

Registered independents are likely moderates in their thinking. They don’t like to align themselves with a too right or too left party. They don’t jump on bandwagons.

That being said, consider this.

John McCain frustrated many Republicans for not being conservative enough. They would have preferred a more right-leaning candidate but reluctantly got on board when he became the party’s nominee. As more was learned about him and his character, enthusiasm for his candidacy has grown.

The National Journal ranked Barack Obama the most liberal senator last year. Joe Biden ranked number three, just behind Vermont’s Bernie Sanders, a self-avowed Socialist.

The next president may be appointing up to four Supreme Court justices during his time in office.

A far-left Democrat as president with a Democratic-controlled Congress and a left-leaning Supreme Court is a government with unchecked power to impose very liberal policies. This creates a government without balance and moderation, where no dissenting voice is heard.

They say this election will be decided by independents, those who look for a balance of conservative and liberal leadership in government; those for whom moderation is important. John McCain, as commander in chief, is what is standing between a balanced, well-represented America and a one-sided, unfettered government with the most liberal senator, Barack Obama, presiding.

Moderation and honest thought make the choice clear.
