Stop alienating potential visitors

Dear Editor:

Thursday’s headline was in regard to the new marketing campaign the mayor would like to initiate (“The great unwashed welcome in Aspen?” March 26). The plan is to expand the demographic down the income scale. So far, so good. The mayor, whose job should be to make all welcome here, especially during these tough economic times, was sure to get his dig in to the better heeled tourists. His reference to welcoming everyone, “not just [the Bernie] Madoff victims” was in poor taste, and out of line.

The leader of a resort town alienating any potential visitors even in the best of times shows ignorance, insensitivity, and most of all, lack of vision and leadership.
