Stephen Elston Johnston passed away of prostate cancer on Sept. 18, 2010, in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where he lived for many years. He was 62.

Steve worked as a field engineer in satellite communications throughout southeast Asia and many other countries. He worked on the Child family’s ranch in Snowmass and shot a lot of pool in the bars of Basalt in the early 1980s. One of his proudest accomplishments was his 25 years of sobriety and his association with Alcoholics Anonymous.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Thongtree Johnston; son, Nicholas Johnston; mother, Ruth Johnston of Aspen; brother, David (Can) Johnston of Talkeetna, Alaska; sisters, Jill (Dwain) Mefford of Trinidad, Calif. and Molly (Steve) Child of Snowmass; cousins, nieces and nephews.

Steve’s sense of humor and kindness will be missed by all who knew him.
