Staying independent

Dear Editor:In this world today, I often worry that the very things that are so important to keeping democracy alive and well will be the very things that disappear. Community radio is one of those things, where independent voices can be heard, the voices are alive and local and the stations are truly “people-powered.” Once again, the Roaring Fork Valley has showed me that I live in a valley that values that independence, and I want to personally thank all who became new or renewing members in KDNK’s recent membership drive. I also want to remind everyone that independent radio can be very fragile. There is no “downtime” these days. KDNK could easily disappear if the community does not continue to be involved and supportive, so please, get involved! Become a DJ, encourage your friends to become members, let us know what you like and don’t like. The stronger we are as a station and a community, the better chance we have of making it in this world of corporate takeovers and the taking away of our individual freedoms. Thanks again to all who believe that way, too. It makes this world just a little bit easier to live in!Amy KimberlyKDNK development directorCarbondale
