State should follow Skico’s lead

I applaud the Aspen Skiing Co. for buying 6 percent of their energy needs from wind power. Colorado should follow their lead and the leads of other states like Nevada, Texas and Minnesota, who all buy a certain percentage of renewable energy.

In the last 10 years the price of wind generation has dropped from over 20 cents a kilowatt-hour to between 3 and 5 cents ? making it cost competitive with new natural gas.

Colorado currently produces less than 1 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, and yet we have the energy potential from our natural resources. We can and must do better.
