The Colorado Liquor Enforcement Division issued violation notices to both the Ute City restaurant and the Woody Creek Tavern as part of a sweep through Pitkin County on Saturday, officials said.

The division sent underage patrons into 23 different bars, restaurants and liquor stores to purchase alcohol. When a violation occurs, the server in question is issued a criminal summons, and the licensee is notified. The violations are pending investigation.

“The actual compliance check has to be investigated,” said Daria Serna, spokeswoman for the division. “Obviously, the business will now be looked at, and then we’ll have to see where it goes from there.”

The division expects results from the investigation next week.

On Tuesday, Aspen Police Department Investigator Walter Chi informed the Local License Authority board of the citation at Ute City, located on East Hopkins Avenue in Aspen. He did not mention the Woody Creek Tavern, which is in unincorporated Pitkin County.

“We’d obviously like no businesses to fail,” Chi said after the meeting. “But one business is pretty good, I think.”

A message left for Ute City owner Walt Harris was not returned. Owners of the Woody Creek Tavern were out of town and unavailable for comment.
